I'm very glad this turned out to be a minor incident, unrelated to the HS and not a full-blown attack like what happened at Sandy Hook. I was extrmely entertained by Misanthrope's long reply. It had me giggling. Especially "I'm hiding in Fernley right now. Find me. Give up?" LMAO But what also strikes me is..do you really believe FedupinFernley will read all that and glean something useful from it? If so, it's wishful thinking but hey.. please keep writing..I find it delightful =D

@fedupinfernley and Misanthrope, It just amazes me that the media can still get people so riled up by reporting the totally wrong information. All I can say is don't just rely on the main stream media for your information. The subject was no where near Walmart or the school, he was actually in the opposite direction. The news report shows me just how biased the main stream media really are, and how far they will go to get their agenda out there. Guns are not the problem! people who misuse them are! Do your research and you will see that all the states with the toughest gun laws have the highest crime rates; the crimals will still get their guns. As Misanthrope said, the police cannot be everywhere at once and it is up to us to protect ourselves.

I can presume by how you pontificated in your comment that you have an axe to grind, you must be an expert in police procedure and practices, and since you went "near the school," you must have gathered all the necessary information to come to the utterly ludicrous conclusion that you did. Let's deconstruct your comment piece by piece, shall we? 1). You asked how Fernley's finest could lose track of the man with the gun. Well, the subject was never at the school. He was reported to have been across the highway in a subdivision. Due to poor communication of that one report (not multiple as you stated), the cops were led to believe he was headed to the school and that's why they responded to the school (which is what any reasonable, professional, and well trained officer would do). You can't exactly lose track of someone that was never even around the incident in the first place, but I'm sure you already know that. 2). You believe that no one can hide in Fernley? Really? Here's a test. I'm hiding in Fernley right now. Find me. Give up? Ok, I'll give you a hint. I'm somewhere between Wal-Mart and the high school. 3). Again, you make the audacious claim that the subject "slipped through the Sheriff's department's fingers." Really? Did you not see where the news reported that the subject with the gun was contacted by the S.O. and questioned. The media actually got that information correct, but you conveniently ignored that piece of information because it obviously contradicted your bias hit piece. (Continued)

So tell me, when multiple officers from multiple agencies respond to a situation like this and some of them are given assignments like, say, securing both entrances to the school, are those officers, according to your logic, not supposed to talk to one another, or as you call it, "bs-ing," while conducting said assignment? Is it your contention that they should only stand at their post stoic and mute so as to not upset your tender sensitivities? Perhaps they should break out a chemistry set on the hood of their car and try to discover the cure for cancer while they're at their post. 5). Since you went "near the school" you surely must have collected all the information you needed to conclude that "all the officers were doing was bs-ing by their vehicles," because otherwise, fedupinfernley, that would have been a completely asinine statement for you to make based on such a minuscule amount of information. So since you know so much, please tell the readers what the rest of the massive convergence of officers were doing. I'm sure that your cursory observation revealed to you everything from start to finish. And I'm sure it revealed to you that officers from every patrol area in Lyon County responded as well as Storey County S.O. and the Nevada Highway Patrol. So what were they all doing? In case you missed it, the rest of them were in the school clearing it from threats and ensuring the safety of the students and staff . . . while people like you drove by and formulated foolish opinions based on jaded presuppositions, then went home and armchair quarterbacked the entire incident by writing obtuse comments built upon unparalleled ignorance and rife with inaccuracies. 6). @ fedupinfernley, (Part 3 of 3) 7). Citizens, including myself, arm ourselves because we know (and have known) that law enforcement is primarily reactive and cannot be everywhere at every time. That fact does not make them bad. We the people, not the government, are responsible for our own personal safety. It has always been that way and we do not require your biased diatribe to be the genesis for why we arm ourselves. I can't help but think that if the cops didn't respond as they did, and someone did get hurt or killed, then you'd be the first to criticize them for that too. Your kind is all too familiar; you simply aren't mature enough to remove your "darned if the cops do, darned if they don't" glasses and look at each situation objectively. That's too bad. In conclusion, you clearly offered nothing constructive in your comment and proved to the world that your knowledge of this incident (and police procedures in general) can fit in a thimble and still roll around in it like a BB in a bathtub. My suggestion, fedupinfernley, is to never forget that it is far better for you to refrain from commenting on what you don't know--even if people think you're ignorant--than to leave a comment like you did and remove all doubt. With multiple reports of this guy called in how does Fernleys finest lose track of him? Fernley is not that big, takes more than a couple minutes to get from Wal-Mart to the high school! Had to go near the school and all the officers were doing was bs-ing by their vehicles while "blocking" the entrance. Glad with recent events around the world that the "suspicious person" was being such a high priority that he was able to slip through the Sheriff's departments fingers. And people wonder why citizens don't bother calling 911 and are resorting to arming themselves.
