RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier and speaker Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman visited the Reno-Sparks Convention Center to talk about the root of violence in our world.
“I have a deep sense of urgency, bad things are happening and it’s going to get a lot worse. We got to walk out that door and give 100 percent, “ said Grossman.
Whether you are a parent, a teacher or a law enforcement officer, Lt. Col. Grossman is talking to you.
Grossman is internationally recognized as one of the world’s experts on human aggression and the roots of violence. In the wake of the Sparks Middle School shooting and other violent crimes in our community, the Nevada Military Support Alliance hosted Grossman in an effort to help inform our community about how to prevent violence.
How do we prevent violent acts? Grossman said you must first deter them, then detect them and finally defeat them. Grossman focuses on protecting your children from violent visual imagery, such as violent video games and movies.
While there are many factors in preventing violence, whether it is locking a classroom door or having armed security on campus, Washoe County Schools Superintendent Pedro Martinez said the focus continues to come back to parent involvement. “Whether we all believe the effects of video games and movies, at the end of the day, I know that if we connect with our parents and work with our parents, we can prevent a lot of things.”
