SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A man has been arrested after he fired shots in the direction of police officers.
Around 2:15 this morning, Sparks Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the area of Santa Lupe Ave in northeast Sparks.
While checking the area, officers say they saw suspect Keith Alvarez in his backyard and he yelled at the officers asking who they were. The officers identified themselves as Sparks Police Officers and Alvarez said to show themselves so he could shoot them. The officers say they heard the action of a firearm cycle and moved to a cover position. Alvarez fired one round then pointed a handgun over the fence in the area where the officers were originally. Alvarez then went into his house.
Police say several minutes later, he exited his front door unarmed where he was taken into custody. Evidence was collected at the scene that indicated Alvarez was responsible for firing the rounds prior to police arrival and when officers contacted him.
Alvarez was booked into the Washoe County Detection Facility for Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer as well as other charges.
There were no injuries reported from the shots fired.
