SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A man was caught running away from the Sparks home he burglarized, resulting in his arrest.

The resident of the burglarized home on Prospect Avenue told Sparks Police, upon arriving home, the window of the residence was open and that suspect, Jeffrey Scott Cornell, was still in the home. The victim called out asking who was in the house. Cornell heard the victim and ran out the backdoor, but the victim saw Cornell as he was jumping the fence into another backyard.

When officers arrived on scene, the victim pointed out Cornell who was now walking west on Prospect. Officers say they attempted to contact Cornell and he immediately began running from officers. Officers then chased him on foot as he started jumping fences in the 1600 block of Prospect. Sparks Police say a perimeter was set up and K-9 units were brought to the area.

Around 12pm, the suspect was spotted by a ride-along with the Sparks Police Department as he attempted to exit a backyard on Oxford. Officers ultimately caught him in the backyard of a residence in the 1600 block of Oxford. Cornell was cooperative and admitted to the burglary.

Cornell was found to be in possession of property belonging to the victim. Cornell was arrested for Residential Burglary, Possession Burglary Tools and Obstructing. He was booked at the Washoe County Jail and is being held on $23,000.00 bail.

This guy tried to break into my home in Reno two weeks ago. RPD was called and they did nothing, even though I found the guy myself hiding out in another back yard. I wish I lived in Sparks - way to go Sparks PD!!!
