TRUCKEE, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A man died in a crash this morning on Interstate 80 eastbound near Donner Pass Road after sliding down an embankment.

California Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 6:55. The 24-year-old driver of a Ford F-250 drove off the road for unknown reasons and down a steep embankment, colliding with several large boulders, according to CHP. The car overturned and came to rest on its roof. The 22-year-old passenger sustained a broken wrist and various other cuts, but was able to free himself from the car and climb back up to the roadway where passing drivers saw him and CHP was notified of the crash.

The driver was pinned in the passenger compartment and sustained deadly blunt force, resulting in his death.

Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors at this time, according to CHP. Anyone with information should call 530-582-7570.
