Man who died following high speed chase identified

UPDATE - MAY 14, 2013 - 10:51AM - California Highway Patrol has identified the deceased suspect as 55-year-old Penn Valley, CA resident William Orr.





SODA SPRINGS, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- California Highway Patrol says one person is dead and two lanes are closed on Interstate 80 westbound west of Soda Springs after a high speed chase.

CHP says patrol vehicles were chasing the suspect vehicle, a 1989 BMW, after the suspect started speeding around 2pm. The vehicle was using construction zones to pass other cars. The suspect was heading eastbound from Dutch Flat, continued to the Donner Pass exit, exited and then re-entered heading westbound at speeds around 100 MPH. The vehicle made a hard right and overturned after the suspect lost control. The suspect died on impact.

CHP says that in the process, the car hit two state workers. One suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The other worker hit did not suffer injuries.
