Firefighters in Yerington organized a tribute for their fallen brothers from the tragic shooting in Webster, New York.On Sunday nearly 30 fire and police departments across the country as welll as groups in Canada, Great Britain and Italy participated in a ceremony to pay tribute to two fallen firefighters.
Nearly 5,000 pipers and drummers participated in the tribute.
Pipers and drummers played Amazing Grace at 1:00 pm EST followed by a moment of silence.
Aaron Pellegrini firefighter and piper for Yerington-Mason Valley Fire Dept. played a major role in organizing the tribute and says it was primarily to show support of the firefighters and their families.
On Christmas Eve firefighters walked into an ambush when they responded to a house fire in Webster, New York.
Two firefighters were killed and two were injured by a lone gunman who later took his own life.
Yerington's local law enforcement were in also in attendance and stood beside their local emergency crews as they paid homage to the fallen.
"I believe our department was very proud to honor them all the way from here several thousand miles away it touched all of us that is for sure. It was a neat moment I'm sure none of us will ever forget," Pellegrini says.
The two who lost their lives were Lt. Michael
A funeral was held for Lt. Chiapperini on Sunday in Webster, New York.
The two were both volunteer firefighters.
Chiapperini, 43, and Tomasz Kaczowka, 19.
