RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- Even though the location has yet to be announced, Reno Mayor Bob Cashell recently said Nevada will house the new Tesla battery factory.

Mayor Cashell talked about his optimism towards the project Wednesday afternoon on CNBC. "We’re going to beat them and it is going to be great for our economy and Rick Perry just needs to understand that we are going to win," said Cashell.

Nevada and Texas are rumored to land the multi-billion dollar gigafactory and Cashell said the prospects of the plant are big for our region. "It’s going to create jobs. Other companies moving here, diversification, increased tax base, it’s going to do all those types of things."

News 4 asked Mayor Cashell to see if there have been any developments between Nevada and Tesla regarding the factory. "Not at this time that I know of. The governor has really been leading the charge and EDAWN and we are here to support and we want to work with them."

Cashell said Texas will be 'tougher than a yard dog' to compete against, but still expects Nevada to finish on top. "I lived in Texas. Nevada is so much more welcoming and pretty and everything."

The mayor expects more satellite companies to follow in the Tesla footsteps, if the company expands out west.
