RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 23-year-old Reno man is on trial for murder in the beating death of his girlfriend's toddler.

Donald Jackson is charged with first-degree murder and child abuse in the killing of 1-year-old Jayden Marion at an apartment on Lakeside Drive.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Geco says Jackson beat the young boy while babysitting with his mother at work in the months leading up to his death in August 2012.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports autopsy records show he suffered blunt force trauma so hard it severed part of his liver and lacerated his spleen.

A jury was selected and lawyers made opening arguments Monday afternoon before Washoe District Court Judge Scott Freeman.

Geco said expects the trial to continue through the end of the week.

Why isn't the rotten mother being charged? She left the baby with this pile of waste. Too bad these pos are allowed to breath the air.
