NHP Carjacker's Mother Files Lawsuit And Seeks $1M In Damages

You folks who are so upset at this woman's "nerve" and the at the questionable ethics of attorney McKenna are misdirecting your anger. It should be directed at the command staff of the NHP who have ignored a blatant defect in their policy and training program for years despite this defect being pointed out to them on numerous occasions over a period of years by other law enforcement officials and public safety professionals, and that a number of similar events have happened to NHP in the past where only luck prevented them from ending in a similar tragedy. Get your wallet out Nevada. As absurd as this looks at first glance, this woman is probably going to win, and we are going to end up paying damages to the mother of a paranoid-psychotic, dope-smuggling, car-highjacking scum who ended up shooting himself; all because NHP didn't train it's troopers to apply proper procedures and to secure their vehicles and weapons during a felony traffic stop.

first off, the Nevada Bar needs to investigate the scumbag "lawyer" Mckenna, (and I say that lightly) for his unethical behavior. This is just bizzare, he is taking the case of the "victim", and the suspects family? My daughter was also caught up in that traffic nightmare that night. Now I am very stressed (I was not prior to reading this BS today) and I think I need an attorney. I think I will only ask for $900,000.00 so that I will stand the better chance of draining money out of some state fund. That dead guys mom needs to kepp her nastyass self down if Florida or where ever her scum hole residence is. the best thing that happened to her P.O.S. kid is that he killed himself and saved us, the taxpayers of Nevada, the cost of his trial.

We can only hope one of the commentors gets on the jury for this lawsuit and others like it so we can make it right. This attorney, Mr. McKenna should be ashamed for taking on this case but then they are all about the mighty dollar. Disgusting.

REALLY??????? Ms. Peterson, I didnt think that anyone could be any dumber than Ms. Coates for a Lawsuit against NHP in this incident. But, you have proven me wrong. You are telling me that...your son was carrying 100lbs of Marijuana, was pulled over for a traffic violation, stole an NHP vehicle, placed the general public in grave danger (hate to say it.....including Ms. Coates) shoots self with shotgun.....and it is NHPs fault for his abnormal behavior? Get a life!!!!!! I'm glad your son is dead because if he had taken my familys life with these acts, i can assure you that he would have been dead anyways... I'm glad that he did it himself. Try and get me in court on that one....Ms. Coates, I do sympatatize for you, but, you are way too dramatic and I have had a gun pointed in my face (everyone handles it differently). Obviously, this guy was more concerned with evading police rather than killing you (remember his attempt on the other couple filing lawsuits that claimed to telling Ms. petersons son that they had children....and then he came to you? If he wanted the first car, he would have killed and taken it either way....which is why you are alive). Ms. Peterson, get the hell out of here. As stated earlier, your son was super ignorant and placed others lives in jeopardy for his actions.. Who would actually have the balls to steal a Law Enforcement vehcile? ...Oh yea!! You son! If anything, you and your family should be sued for the actions of your son and the emotional distress that you have placed on me and my family. Good idea!!!! I'll see you soon!! I cannot leave the house because I am afraid of people like you son hurting my family...I promise you this, if my family is hurt by this kind of act, I will take care of it before McKenna can get you off!

As a citizen of Nevada and a taxpayer (where these funds will most likely come from), I expect that this woman will not get a dime from the state of Nevada. This is a frivolous lawsuit. This is the mother of a criminal (he fled from police in two STOLEN vehicles, did not pull over for law enforcement officials, and then discharged a firearm in public) suing a state because she's upset that her son killed himself to avoid going to jail. Here's a question I'd like to hear her answer to..... If a bullet discharged from the firearm that he shot had killed an innocent passerby, could a family member of that person sue HER for the unjust death of THEIR loved one? I'm guessing she would say that it's still the state's fault. Her son made the choice to steal the vehicles. Her son made the choice to obtain the stolen weapon from one of the stolen vehicles. Her son also made the choice to point the stolen weapon at himself. And finally, her son made the choice to pull the trigger of that stolen weapon. It's a series of choices that her son made that led to his death. It was only unlawful when Devin Peterson chose to do all those illegal acts. If the mother wants to stretch the events to make things sound that horrible, then the state should do everything they can to stretch around facts to show that she was in some way an accomplice.

The comment below was meant for the story pertaiing to Ms Coates & Mr McKenna. My anger over the situation blinded me to this headline. But while I am here what in the "heck" does Devin Preston's mother have to do with this and why should she deserve anything from the state of Nevada. The story gets more disgusting as we go. Not to mention the more bottom feeders showing themselves.

We seem to have lost the previous comments posted over the past few days. I will repost mine. I do know you, Ms Coates. People would be interested to know that this time is not the first time you have financially benefited from a situation which you needed someone else to blame. Kudos to all of the others who have written comments about Ms Coates & Mr McKenna. Unfortunately they will fall on deaf ears because these kinds of people think that they are "entitled" to what they DO NOT deserve. Thank You Nevada Highway Patrol and all Law Enforcement Agencies who put their lives on the line daily. This is a disgusting display and the parties involved should be ashamed but unfortunately they will not be or else they wouldn't be involved in such hideous behavior. SHAMEFUL!

I would like to sue the Mother of Devin Peterson for emotional distress because I was held up in traffic because her idiot Son killed himself. And it took two tries and he still did'nt get it right. He had to bleed out. Morons breeding Morons Hiring Morons to defend them.
