The Nevada Gaming Control Board notified all gaming licensees to day to choose the casino industry or the medical marijuana field.
Board Member Terry Johnson says those with gaming approval or those who have applied for gaming approval cannot participate in our states medical marijuana industry.
Casino employees licensed by the state are owners and top management staff along with some “key employees.”
A cage manager or pit boss falls under the category of a key employee but not all are licensed by the gaming control board.
Employees such as table dealers or food and beverage managers are not licensed by the state.
Marijuana use is still illegal under federal law and Johnson says those licensed by the Gaming Control Board cannot break any federal law.
It is still unclear how licensees in Nevada would be disciplined for manufacturing, distributing or possessing medical marijuana.
News 4 spoke with several state board agencies today to see if they are considering banning licesees from the medical marijuana industry as well.
Neither the Nevada state board of Cosmetology or State Board of Nursing have discussed the topic.
The Executive Director for the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners did not return calls today and alcohol license distribution differs per Nevada county.
