UPDATE: JAN. 17, 11:30AM - According to Deputy Avina, Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies ran a plate check and saw that the blue Volvo was a stolen vehicle.
Deputies pursued the vehicle onto I-80 at Vista, heading eastbound, that’s when NHP took over the incident. The vehicle turned around at the USA Parkway exit and headed westbound. With NHP on the pursuit, RAVEN tracked the vehicle and saw that it headed into the Patrick Street area. RAVEN continued on the suspect as he fled the vehicle and when police and deputies caught up to the suspect, Steven Bumgarner, he surrendered to police.
As deputies and troopers were pursuing the suspect vehicle, Bumgarner threw out of the window a baggy that appeared to have a substance. Upon further review, police say it tested positive for meth
Sparks Police arrested the passenger, but the passenger's name is not being released at this time.
UPDATE: 6:20PM - According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, both a driver and passenger were taken into custody.
The male driver fled on foot after he left his vehicle near Sullivan Road. He was eventually apprehended near El Rancho and Prater Way by the Washoe County Sheriff Deputies and Sparks Police.
When the male driver abandoned the vehicle, the vehicle ran off the road, but there was no property damage.
Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the vehicle crash near Sullivan Road and the WCSO is investigating the arrest.
SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Nevada Highway Patrol chased a stolen blue 4-door volvo heading eastbound on I-80 before the suspect vehicle fled into Sparks.
According to Trooper Barb Stapleton with NHP, the pursuit started at the I-80 Patrick Exit, when a vehicle fled from troopers and was headed towards Fernley. The vehicle then changed directions and headed westbound on I-80 towards Sparks.
Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle by laying spikes on the road, but the vehicle continued into Sparks and was last located in the Sullivan Road area. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has taken over the pursuit and are currently looking for the suspect or suspects that have fled on foot.
