RENO, Nev. (AP) — The death of Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Chairman Wayne Burke has been ruled a suicide.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office said Thursday an autopsy shows Burke died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Burke died about 2 a.m. Sunday in Nixon. He was 38.
Burke also served on the Nevada Commission on Tourism, having been recently appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
The 10-member tribal council governs the 2,600-member Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, whose reservation is located about 35 miles northeast of Reno.
A memorial service is being held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Nixon Gym, according to Tribal Planner Scott Carey.
