WASHOE COUNTY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A Norovirus alert tonight--health experts say a strong strain of the virus out of Australia has made its way to the U.S, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Norovirus is the most common cause of stomach illness in the U.S.
There are no confirmed cases in Washoe County, as of yet, but more than 140 cases have been reported around the U.S. so far.
The Norovirus is not the flu, but can cause serious complications during flu season. The virus attacks the intestinal tract, and can cause stomach pain, nausea and vomiting. The CDC says it can be very contagious, and can spread quickly. Children and the elderly are at greater risk for Norovirus.
Washing your hands with soap and warm water is the best way to stay healthy, and if you have symptoms see a doctor immediately.
