CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- An inmate at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City has died.

State Department of Corrections officials say 53-year-old Carlos Ortiz died Thursday after being taken to the prison's medical facility for treatment of a chronic medical condition.

The Carson City coroner's office responded to the facility, and an autopsy will be conducted.

Ortiz had been incarcerated at the prison since May 2008 following a conviction for first-degree murder and kidnapping in Clark County. He was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison with possible parole.

Don't you find it kind of strange that the Nevada prisons have been having a lot of medical issues and deaths. Almost sounds like population control to me.
