UPDATE-- Lyon County officials tell News 4 that the mother who allegedly shot her son has not yet been charged with a crime.
The woman remains in the hospital with injuries sustained in the fight.

Her identification will not be released as the investigation is still ongoing.
SILVER SPRINGS, Nev (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - A woman shot and killed her adult son around 9 o’clock Friday night at 8820 Catfish Street in Silver Springs.

Lyon county deputies discovered the man dead with a single gunshot wound after they received a 911 call from a woman saying she shot her son. Investigators say initial indicators point to self-defense.

A neighbor says it makes sense given the mother and son's unhealthy relationship.

“I guess she seemed to be frightened,” says Trish Wake. “And I never seen her outdoors even. And everybody's opinion was yes, he pretty much controlled her life.”

Wake also adds the son caused trouble in the neighborhood.

“He was very secluded. Very strange,” she says. “He's into firearms. He's had the cops called on him several times for discharging firearms.“

Neighbors say they're shocked something like this happened and didn't see or hear any commotion last night.

Investigators are continuing their investigation. And as of yet, they aren't releasing any names and have not clarified whether or not the woman will be charged with a crime.

@Steve A place like Nevada is fairly safe except near the magnets for crime. What is that you say, Casinos, which yes help the economy but attract certain but of course NOT all bad people. Las Vegas has a ton of crime disproportionate to the rest of the state just for that reason, Reno too has the same problem just on a much smaller scale. The high unemployment and drop out rates don't help either. ---- In this case, Domestic situations are the most dangerous as any Law Enforcement Officer would tell you. Someone you know often is the most likely to commit a crime against you. ------ But look at a state like Alaska which is #2 in deaths by firearms and its nothing like Nevada but has it's share of problems. Louisiana is #1 and is a shooting gallery and by far and the worst place to be when it comes to firearms. Tennessee is #1 as far as crime, these statistics are from 2012. ------- So its not as bad here as most think just be alert of where you are as you would do in any busy area where drinking, money, and of course the places where the desperate are and you will be OK, hopefully. That's life you roll the dice every day regardless if your home or outside. The day your number is up can not be stopped.

Nevada has a high rate of murders and killings due to the unhealthy dry drought ridden social environment.

George! I also was wondering about that! Glad you asked first, but uhm, yah, when did this really happen or is it yet to happen? I'd prefer not to be in the area at the time this will occur we live in Silver Springs. :P
