The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is once again accused of violating peoples' civil rights.
A second lawsuit has been filed against the sheriff's office. In both cases motorists were stopped along the highway in Winnemucca and they say they had thousands of dollars taken from them by Sergeant Lee Dove.
In the first case it was $50,000 from a California man who was not even cited.
Now in this second case, Ken Smith of Colorado says he was wrongly arrested after being pulled over for speeding.
Smith's attorney Jeff Dickerson says sgt. Lee Dove took more than $13,000 from his client before realizing the warrant was for another man by the same name.
"They stopped, they yanked him out of the car, they searched his person, searched his car and they seized it all. Took him to jail in handcuffs. And they had the wrong guy," Dickerson told News 4.
Humboldt County Sheriff Ed Kilgore told News 4 he can't comment on these cases because of the lawsuits that have been filed. But the district attorney's office tells us that if they suspect the money has been obtained illegally then they say have a right to seize it.
Both lawsuits have been filed in federal court.
