TRUCKEE, Calif. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) -- Plastic bag bans continue to become reality through Lake Tahoe communities and neighboring California cities.

Truckee's bag ban ordinance for grocery stores and food vendors took effect last week after being voted on and approved last October. Now, Nevada City, Calif. officials are planning to adopt a similar ordinance this year.

Single-use plastic bags are banned throughout South Lake Tahoe stores, except for restaurants handing out to-go bags. Shoppers in Truckee now must choose between 5-cent paper bags, 10-cent reusable plastic bags, or 99-cent reusable fabric bags.

Paladin; That's the part of the story where you tell them you'll shop somewhere else, and leave all those groceries where they are. Up here,a lot of people even drive to Boise,Twin Falls or SLC to shop every month, and a few take shopping lists for seniors and handicapped and bring back their supplies to help THEM save a few bucks too.

Its coming to Nevada. My clerk at Savemart said on Sunday that "no plastic" would be coming to Reno this spring and the paper bags would be 5 cents each. WE have used paper for years now because the plastic won't hold any weight without ripping and spilling my purchases all over the parking lot. But it should be a choice, not ordered by the nanniestate!

I thought being "bi-sackual" would get me by, but they have so many choices I'm going to have to evolve to "poly-sackuality"! Oh, bother.

Agreed glad we still live in the land of the free in Nevada and hope that those California environmental Nazi's never manage to take over this state!

I'm glad we don't have to deal with that here in the FREE WORLD. I use the disposable "single use" plastic bags to line my waste baskets in the house,as well as line the bucket for the used kitty litter (double bagged,of course.) Lots less mess for the "Sanitation Workers". If the PTB ever outlaw those bags here, they'll have a lot of angry Garbage Men to deal with.
