Police: Shoplifter tries to stab Lemmon Valley Walmart security guards

LEMMON VALLEY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Reno Police say a man tried to stab Walmart security officers while they tried to stop him from shoplifting.  It happened at about 4:47 Thursday afternoon at the Walmart at 250 Vista Knoll.

Walmart security officers tried to catch a shoplifter who had just stolen two laptop computers from the store.  Police say a fight ensued, and the shoplifter got a large knife, and tried to stab both security officers.

When the security officers backed away from the shoplifter, he ran from the store and was last seen entering a large ravine west of the Walmart.

Responding officers from the Reno Police Department and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office were unable to locate the suspect and he remains at large.

Suspect:
White Male Adult
approximately 50 years of age
5’10” to 6’-0” tall
200 lbs with gray hair
last seen wearing dark clothing

Well, the first thing if they wanted the Security Guard to be armed I'm sure they would have had to pay him more than the minimum wage they pay him now. Secondly if the bad guy was armed then the security guard would have been dead.

It seems the security guards are inadequately equipped and inadequately qualified. But this is how Wal-Mart Values its employees: Invest as little as possible in the workers in order to make the maximum profit possible from the Chinese products they sell.

Seriously, these security guards need to be trained to take a person out if being threatened with any kind of weapon... and why didn't they have a weapon? I mean, not even a stick? Some security... perhaps it was known the guards are "unarmed"... makes you wonder....

The security guards should have been armed with pistols!! Why? Because the criminal could have continued his attack and sliced them up!!
