RENO, Nev. (AP) — The victim of a deadly shootout with law officers near Winnemucca has been identified as a 46-year-old man from New York state.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office identified him Thursday as John Robert Dellafiora. Authorities say he's from the small town of Gilboa, 50 miles southwest of Albany, but released no other information.

Dellafiora led state troopers and Winnemucca police on a chase after he fled a traffic stop on I-80 near Winnemucca the afternoon of Oct. 23.

Deputies say he exited near Golconda and starting shooting at officers. He hit two patrol cars and a K-9 was injured by flying shrapnel before the officers returned fire. Dellafiora later died from his injuries.

Washoe County deputies and Reno police are investigating on behalf of the Humboldt County district attorney.
