Principal of Lemmon Valley Elementary placed on administrative leave

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Kara White, the principal for Lemmon Valley Elementary was placed on administrative leave two weeks ago, according to Vicki Campbell with Washoe County School District.

Families were notified by a call from the school district. A substitute principal is in place. The substitute is a retired former principal in the Washoe County School District named Muriel Paille Dickey.

WCSD says they're not sure how long Dickey will be in place.

No reasons are given for White’s dismissal except that it’s a personnel issue.

The problem with your post, nvteach, is if she were really about improving the school, she wouldn't have had the district hauled off into court and likely disciplined as a result of the allegations made in the suit. There could be even worse incidents than what happened to the teacher who filed the suit, but the people involved didn't know where to turn. Kara White's main problem is she didn't have somebody like former sup Paul Dugan look the other way and slap her on the wrist, which is what happened with my last principal who should have been fired outright.

People who do not work for the district have no clue the pressure that is put on our principals. It's all about the data and making sure schools make growth. I have personally worked with Kara and she is a phenomenal principal. She is one of the few who hold her teachers accountable. She doesn't just let teachers sit on their lazy butts. She expects more and if it isn't for her benefit but the benefit of all students at LV. She addresses the teachers that aren't making it and she doesn't treat them poorly. She works with them, coaches them and tries to help make them a better teacher. She doesn't pick on certain teachers she looks at ALL the data and then starts the conversation with teachers on what they could be doing better. The fact is there is always going to be someone out there that doesn't like how she runs the school so there will be complaints. give me a name of one principal who hasn't made a parent mad, you can't! Have any of you even bothered to look up the accomplishments she has earned. Take a look at LV scores and the turn around she has done for that school. The teachers that are gone deserve to be gone!

This is not medical leave and I think parents and teachers have a right to know...I do know MANY parents and teachers had issues with this principal and moral at the school was very low. Teacher turn over has been high since Kara took over. I am glad the district is finally doing something about it all because the problems should have been addressed years ago.

BTW, it is a "personnel" issue, NOT a "personal" issue. The district can't say anything more because of privacy laws.

Administrative leave is NOT medical leave or a leave of absence. Administrative leave has to do with alleged misconduct or something along those lines. It IS the public's business to know, especially if her past alleged mistreatment of staff is the cause of being placed on leave. Now I don't know precisely what the reason is for her taking an administrative leave, but I seriously doubt she will be returning to that job. If she is typical of principals in the district who are lousy, she will get a desk job in the central office and never be heard from again. About a year ago a former teacher at the school filed a lawsuit in federal court, with the attorney wanting the federal court to place an injunction on the district's administrative process. Kara White was named in this suit, and it was alleged that she falsely accused this teacher of testing violations, and the suit also asserted this principal had a history of railroading teachers out of their jobs because she didn't like them. She was also alleged to have abused the administrative process in dealing with this teacher. This case was settled about a year ago, so it would not surprise me in the least that any fallout from that affair is the reason she is out on administrative leave. I know it is hard for people to grasp, but most principals are absolutely terrible bosses. A whole lot more of them from WCSD should be kicked to the curb but aren't.

what if this "personal" issue is a health issue & revealing it would violate HIPPA laws? what if this "personal" issue involves a family member of the principal & she doesn't want them exposed to this nonsensical probing? It could be any number of things that do not affect the safety of the students and are none of the students, or anyone else's, business.

A parent could have disliked her and gave anonymous information leading to her administrative leave. Putting a child in a corner..oh so cruel. NOT. Gives a child to think. Drinking problem, drug problem? Who's to say? There could be a number of things. A child lying through their teeth. Takes one liar. People in the higher rankings are subject to ridicule by their peers.
