Renown Shake-Up: Board Chair - Our legal team hid information

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - A major shake-up at Renown Medical Center after a botched deal with a group of local cardiologists.  Renown President/CEO Jim Miller, General Counsel Kelly Testolin, Vice President of System Development Andy Pearl, and Business Development Administrator Phil Schweber all left the hospital.

The News 4 Fact Finder team helped bring the details of this messy divorce to light in several Fact Finders reports involving Renown and its acquisition of Sierra Nevada Cardiology Associates.

Renown Health Systems Board Chairman David Line told News 4 the Renown legal team hid "key evidence from the board" and that is why the board approved the purchase of two local cardiology groups.  Line also says the legal team hid information about the breach of contract with Sierra Nevada Cardiology Associates doctors.

Line added Jim Miller was "upset about leaving" the hospital, but Miller will be paid for the remainder of his two year contract with Renown.

Renown has named an interim CEO and added a board member to help provide more oversight for the hospital.

News 4 will have new details on this developing story tonight on News 4 at 4, 5, and 6.


UPDATE: Members of the former Sierra Nevada Cardiology group issues News 4 a statement on Miller's leaving: "We are gratified that justice was done. The misrepresentation by the hospital administration was finally brought to light and the physicians have been exonerated."

I guess the avalanche of negative responses about what a tyrant Jim Miller was and is, speaks volumes about his long reign over Washoe Med. The media absolutely needs to keep digging on this one. The Miller regime broke laws and should be held accountable. Firing Miller and his cronies stopped the bleeding but has not healed the patient. They need to be held accountable, in criminal court if possible. The good ole boy system, the dirty backdoor deals and agreements and an obvious "quid pro quo" with Miller and his regime is the best example ever of how to run a business into the ground and have your entire staff hate your guts because of the way you treat them. "Ding dong the witch is dead, the wicked witch is dead". Good riddance to the witch (Miller).

Renown needs to change their reputation. I quit there. I have worked for alot of great physicians in Reno. Never been fired from eny job and I wasn't about to let Renown be the first. My daughter was employeed there for ten years, they fired her for stupid reasons and denied unemployment. She is self supporting.I dont believe enyone would have done that job for 10 yrs. They also put her saftey in jeopardy a time or two. After my father-in-law passed while in Renown, things were missing. When I questioned it and they settled 750.00 with us low and behold my daughter was fired! Unbelievable. They should abolish their do not rehire list and quit walking former employees out of new jobs just because they purchase the practice. That two is a monoply. And should be a violation of a right to work state. Wake-up make Reno proud again and treat the employees better because they are the backbone of your company. I believe Renown stands for Reno's own. pay it forward to the people. Karma

Hopefully Renown will change its bad reputation. Human resource needs to be investigated on their tactics of firing people. Then they deny unemployment to people.I quit there, I have worked for alot of wonderful physicians in Reno and have never been fired from eny job. I was not about to let Renown be the first! My father-in-law passed from Renown, When things turned up missing and I rocked the boat about it, Then they fired my daughter after ten years worth of service.No unemployment benifits either and she is self supporting.The reasons they used were a joke! No one would have done that job for ten years.As far as I am concerned they put my daughters saftey in jeopardy a time or two.Also when someone has moved onto a new job Renown should stop walking people out the door, just because they were employeed by Renown before.Seems to me that should be a violation of a right to work state. It is also having monopoly on people and jobs. Get rid of your do not hire list. I know people who are not rehireable even after putting in Two week notice.Wonder if they break the law when other employeers call for references on past employees? Change your ways and make our state proud again. Clean house from the top down. Karma

They (Washoe Medical Center/renown management and board of directors) don't seem to realize (or don't care) that their former employees are their worst advertisements. We share with the public truths that have happened at the hands of upper management and the board of directors. We know all their dirty little secrets and aren't afraid to share the TRUTH with the community. BEWARE!
