RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Safe Shot Indoor Shooting Range General Manager James Harwin sits behind bars Wednesday evening. According to U.S. District Court documents, undercover agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms illegally purchased guns from Harwin four different times from March through May of this year.
One undercover special agent purchased four firearms at the Reno Gun Show in March, where the agent claimed to be from California. On April 17th, two undercover agents went to Safe Shot for a Private Party sale not requiring background checks. Behind the store, Harwin sold the men four guns for $5,000.
Court documents show Harwin knew the men came from California and told the agents he had been grinding the serial number off of one sold gun. On May 2, Harwin sold the agents a machine gun with a destroyed serial number outside of the store. Then on May 29, Harwin met the agents behind Safe Shot and sold them a shotgun along with three machine guns.
According to the court documents, Harwin obliterated a serial number in front of one of the agents and Harwin did not conduct background checks in all four cases.
The court has decided Harwin poses a danger to the community and will remain in jail until his next hearing on June 12.
