CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval has appointed Wynn Resorts Ltd. board member Elaine Wynn to the Nevada Board of Education.
Sandoval called her a vocal advocate for improving education in the state. Her term begins in January.
Wynn served as state co-chair for the Education Reform Blue Ribbon Task Force, which was formed in part to submit a state application for the federal Race to the Top grant competition.
Wynn also served as founding chairman of Communities In Schools of Nevada and is currently chairman of the national board of Communities In Schools.
She moved to Las Vegas in 1967 with her former husband, Wynn Resorts CEO Steve Wynn.
The governor appoints a board member of his choice. He will appoint six others on the recommendations of various groups and legislative leaders.
