CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed a new bill legalizing needle exchange programs and nonprescription pharmacy sales in Nevada.

Senate Bill 410 was signed today and it removes syringes from the list of illegal drug paraphernalia, making it legal for them to be sold without a prescription.

Northern Nevada HOPES organization here in Reno plans to start a syringe exchange program as soon as the law takes effect.

Other states have decriminalized syringes, allowing for exchange programs to reduce transmission of hiv, hepatitis, and other infections.
