Scooter rider sustains serious injuries after hitting pick-up truck

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A scooter rider has sustained serious injuries after colliding with a Toyota pick-up truck at Wells Avenue and Thoma Street today, Reno Police report.

Around 1pm, the driver of a scooter was traveling northbound on Wells Avenue in a marked bicycle lane. The Toyota pick-up truck was traveling in front of the scooter and proceeded to make a right turn onto Thoma Street. As the Toyota made the turn, the driver of the scooter collided with the passenger side of the vehicle, according to Reno Police. The driver of the scooter was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and sustained critical injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The Reno Police Department Traffic Division would like to remind the public that drivers of motor scooters are subject to the same traffic laws as drivers of vehicles.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this collision. The collision is currently being investigated by Detectives from Reno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team.
