CARSON CITY, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) - Local reaction to the shocking events in Newtown prompted Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong to setup precautions around local schools. Deputies were stationed nearby at each and every school in Carson City today as parents dropped off and picked up their kids from school.
Although, there has been no threat made to schools in the area, Sheriff Furlong says their presence has an important a message to the community. "We want to reassure them we take our childrens safety very seriously in Carson," said Furlong.
School police in Washoe County School District say they are operating as usual today. Deputy Chief Jason Trevino says the district is lucky to have police on hand on a normal basis. Trevino says school police are making their presence more visible.
