CARSON CITY , Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- One woman was injured by a gunman at the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on Sunday. The victim has been transferred to Renown with a gunshot wound to her chest, and her condition is not known at this time.
Carson Tahoe reports that all patients and staff are safe.
According to Ken Furlong from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, the male shooter has been identified as 88-year-old William Dresser. He was taken into custody, and booked at the Carson City Jail on the charge of Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon, and Elderly Enhancement charge.
The Carson City Sheriff's Office has determined that the suspect’s wife was in the hospital for a prior injury. No foul play was previously suspected, and details regarding her condition or treatment prior to the shooting will not be released.
The shooting occurred in the patient's room on the third floor, and only three patients were on the floor at the time. Furlong believes the third floor is the rehabilitation floor.
The injuries sustained by Dresser’s wife are considered life threatening. He remains in custody under suicide watch.
Officials say the hospital is no longer on lock down.
