The man who died at Northstar has been identified as 67 year old Marc L. Coleman of Van Nuys, California.
According to a release issued by the Placer County Sheriff’s office, at about 11:31 AM North Tahoe Fire personnel and Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy Coroners responded to the Northstar Ski Resort to assist Ski Patrol. Initial reports stated Ski Patrol was working a traumatic ski accident. North Tahoe Fire personnel quickly arrived on scene and pronounced Coleman deceased at the scene. The Placer County Sheriff’s Coroner’s division took charge of the investigation and took custody of the decedent. Deputy Coroner’s on scene determined this to be an apparent accidental ski death, although an autopsy may be pending. The decedent was
wearing a helmet. Next of kin have been notified.
A man who was found unresponsive on the ski slopes of Northstar just before 11 a.m. this morning, was pronounced dead after being flown by CareFlight to Renown Regional Medical center.
According to a spokesperson for the resort, Northstar ski patrol responded to the report of an incident on the Rail Splitter advanced ski trail.
Upon arrival to the scene, patrollers located a 67 year old male skier from Van Nuys, CA who unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were initiated by ski patrol and continued by Northstar Fire Department and Care Flight. Renown Regional Medical Center pronounced him deceased. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
According to a statement issued by Northstar:
