UPDATE - 2:05P - According to Washoe County School District Public Information Officer Charles Rahn, they are drying out the hallway right now. The damage(to paint, carpet, drywall) looks minimal, but it’s still too early to tell how much it will cost to fix and repair any damage. After looking at surveillance footage, there was only one student near the sprinkler head when it was broken. They spoke with the student and are still trying to determine if it was an accident or not. They believe the student's backpack may have caught on the sprinkler and broke it off, but the situation is still under investigation.

UPDATE: Washoe Schools Police Chief Mike Mieras tells News 4 after investigating, there was no explosion. A sprinkler next to a vending machine went off and sounded like an explosion.

There are currently three to four students that are being investigated to see if they tampered with the sprinkler system and set it off.

SPANISH SPRINGS, NV. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Charles Rahn from the Washoe County School District says a small explosion happened at about 7:45 Friday morning.  No one injured.  Rahn says the explosion set off the sprinkler system in the high school, flooding the school.  School has now been canceled for the day.  The explosion was in or near a vending machine on campus.

Washoe Schools Police Chief Mike Mieras tells News 4, school had not started when the small explosion happened, but some students were already in the building. He confirmed there were no injuries.

All staff and students were immediately evacuated to the football field for safety.

Forensics teams are at the school investigating the explosion. When asked if Police were looking for any suspects, Mieras only said the incident is under investigation.

School buses are being staged for some students across the street at the church. Parents are being directed to Shaw Middle School for more information.

School Police, along with Sparks Police and Fire are on the scene.

I'm pretty sure, considering it's nothing but the sprinkler's going off. A little bit of a paranoid knee jerk reaction from the school, police, and local news. Don't understand how someone can confuse sprinklers going off and an explosion.
