UPDATE: 5:37PM - Sparks Police say the incident took place at 3:55 when the officer was responding to another officer who had a robbery suspect at gunpoint with lights and siren. The officer was driving westbound on Glendale Avenue through the intersection of McCarran Boulevard when a 1992 Honda Accord going south hit the passenger door.
Sparks Police say the driver of the Honda was not injured, but the police officer complained of neck and back pain and was subsuquently transported to Renown for treatment.
Due to a Sparks officer being involved in the crash, the Nevada Highway Patrol conducted the investigation, and the Washoe County Sheriff's Department sent deputies to assist with traffic control.
Police say the intersection was blocked for approximately 45 minutes until the vehicles could be towed from the scene.

Though details are scarce at this time, Sparks Police Department tells News 4 that the police officer is expected to recover from his injuries. He has been taken to the hospital. He was responding to a call at the time of the crash.
