UPDATE - 12:02PM - Deputy Armando Avina tells News 4 that deputies attempted to pull over a driver of a possibly stolen vehicle and were led on a high speed chase. Deputies abandoned the chase due to being in a residential neighborhood and having posing a large risk factor. Deputies found the stolen vehicle in the backyard of a residence on Chocolate Drive and have the female passenger of the car in custody.

Deputies say the driver took off on foot. Witnesses say he entered a residence in the area of Chocolate Drive and W. 6th Avenue and barricaded himself. SWAT and the Hostage Team are on scene working to get the suspect who has barricaded himself in a residence.

Due to proximity to schools, WCSO called Washoe County School District to lock down the nearby schools.

My question wasn't about a phone call and being as how I don't reside in that area I wouldn't have received a reverse 911 call anyway. I was simply asking why the news stations didn't mention anything about the Sun Valley Head Start class being on a code red lock down. Is it because they're not part of WCSD? As far as the Code Red System goes, I feel people should be made more aware of it's existence. How can people utilize the service when they don't know anything about it?

I got the call about the time every school did only because I signed my number up for LOCAL CODE RED ALERTS. If you had signed your phone number up for this important alert system you would have known that Sun Valley was on high alert.

The Sun Valley Neighborhood Center, which houses Senior Services and a Head Start classroom was put on a code red lock-down. Why was that not reported?
