FERNLEY, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) – A suspect is in custody after a brief high-speed pursuit ended in a rollover accident Thursday night.
NHP Trooper Michael Edgell tells News 4 that at around 10:09 pm they received a report from Sparks Police that a stolen Chevy pickup was heading eastbound on I-80 towards Fallon.
An NHP trooper was on the shoulder of the highway when he saw the suspect driving over 90 miles per hour near the Wadsworth exit at 10:17 pm. When the NHP officer tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect attempted to elude the officer. The vehicle swerved around several cars at a high speed.
The suspect got off on exit 48 in Fernley and drove across an intersection roadway and continued onto a dirt road at a high speed. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and rolled over. The driver was ejected from the pickup becuase he was not wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities. The pursuit lasted about 5 minutes.
The NHP officer rendered first aid while Lyon County medical arrived at the scene. The suspect was trasported via ambulance to Renown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released around 2 am Friday and booked at the Lyon County Jail in Yerington.
The suspect, 29 year old Bryant Jayne from Fallon, is charged with possesion of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and reckless driving. Jayne's bail is set for $2,911.
The investigation is ongoing on whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
Trooper Edgell says they later learned that before the pursuit, a driver reported he was side swiped by Jayne near the Wadsworth exit. The vehicle, a Volksawagon Jetta, received minor damages.
