RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – On News 4 at 4pm Nevada Athletic Director Cary Groth said Coach Ault’s retirement was a surprise to her. The school will now try to move quickly to hire a new head football coach. Groth expects the school will hire a search consultant to help them. She stressed that the decision needs to be made soon because the team needs to be recruiting and getting commitments from student-athletes.
Former Wolf Pack Running Backs Coach and Run Game Coordinator Jim Mastro is one name being mentioned for the job. News 4 Sports Director Bryan Samudio reports that Mastro has been asked apply for the job; Mastro was on hand for Coach Ault’s retirement announcement. Mastro is now a coach at Washington State, he also coached at UCLA after leaving Nevada.
