And to my Dear friend Magnum.. IF people practiced "common sense", they would never leave their houses in todays world. People are shot and killed. People die in car crashes, airplane crashes, and TRAIN wrecks. IF people were perfect, we would have NO trageties. But people are not perfect. I too have riden that very Zephr train from San Diego to Denver on many occasions, and experienced 2 (two) suicides, ie, persons who sat on the tracks waiting to get killed. I, Von, my friend and I were on the bridge with the dogs. Trespassing yes. We ran fast, on Poopers the red dog ran down the track, instead of running off the track. My Tom lost his life trying to save Poopers who ran straight down the track. It happed all so fast. People go on that bridge all the time to fish in the Truckee River below. Maybe THEY will be more cautious.

I was on the train. When it stopped we were in the observation car. We saw a man ( Von) standing on the south side of the tracks with a small dog. The incident occurred about 1/4 mi from the Boomtown casino. There were no sidewalks or road near the tracks. On the north side of the tracks we saw some furry pieces of flesh, pieces of bone, and some blood. With all due respect to mr stafford, there was no reason for them to be walking their dogs in the railroads right of way. It was trespassing. The noise from the approaching train should have been obvious. The dog was not on a leash and running free. This was totally preventable by the victims. Everyone on the train was emotionally impacted by this event. I feel very sorry for the victim but the pedestrians exhibited a lack of common sense, and a disregard for safety. This was totally preventable. Further along in our train journey we saw other people close to the tracks far away from any crossing or signs of civilization. If you google you will find many incidents of this type. My prayers go to the victim.

Trains have good braking systems, have you tried to stop a 10 car train in a few feet. The head end crew will life with this for their rest of their life. They will never forget it. Things a REAL railroad Operation Lifesaver (OL) group would ask!!! 1. Why are all OL directors handpuppets of the railroad or government only giving lip service safety messages? 2. Where are the crossing safety signals for the trains going too fast with no brakes or steering at 1,000s of crossings? 4. Why aren't railroads paying at least half for crossing signals because it's their trains going too fast with no brakes or steering while paying the so-called RR directors millions a year. 6. Why the crossing humps trapping big trucks aren't required to be removed? 7. Why the crossing surfaces aren't wider where if a vehicle fish tails on slick road and is trapped at the edge of the crossing surface trap? 8. Why the train cabs aren't required to be lit up like a Christmas tree with emergency vehicle light bars? LOOK AND SEE!! 9.
