OH get this..Los Angeles are thinking of trapping and killing wild coyotes that roam around the LA area...so they they wont hurt their poor little poodles or teacup chihuahuas. Go figure, seems like SoCal peeps don't know how to live in so called wild earth and no wonder why their money is in the drain hole with so much f'd up laws they make up. Its like they are feeding themselves to the wolves (like this country already did) and dont eve realize it lol. Coyotes can easily be scared away, not that difficult, but instead waste their money on something stupid...lame! People just dont get it!

What P's me off more is hearing excuses from whoever drove the sporty speedy red car and whoever is in the other vehicle OR how many multiple vehicles involved, should have known better! I know its early in the morning and barely even awake, but you are driving for crying out loud! Be alert and have common sense!!! Not that hard to see something in front of you! Waisting so much money already and how much more do we have to pour for things happens naturally like fencing, posting signs up etc etc??? Yes money is the root of all evil! This country is even so much debt..so now what? People comes up with soooo much excuses and its ridulous! AND for comment washoe123, yeah we'll give you a CENSORED sign for your viewing pleasure for the kids! Its life that kids have to deal with. THE STUPIEST CREATURES ON THIS EARTH IS HUMANS!!! Big surpris, Nature runs its course. If NDOT puts up warning signs, that will only relieve them of some liability. Because this area is likely attractive to horses, managing herds overall may reduce their tendency to use the ample feed and water in this valley. hey traffic cops don't care if broken glass is in the street, Y should they assume the offal task of moving bodies?

no one wants to see a person injured or killed because they hit a horse or a deer or any other animal in their road, but the anger is misdirected at the horses ,, it is not the horses fault, lets direct that anger and hatred where it belongs, to the Department of Agriculture who has suspended all the cooperative agreements with the wild horse advocy groups, who work tirelessly try to keep the horses up on the range, and to the persons who fenced off 200 acres up on the range where the water is, I understand it is their land and and they do have that right but really a 200 acre fence??? why did they move up there in the first place, and even at those well-meaning people who at one time thought the horses were cute and so they fed them apples and carrots and now are pissed off because they poop on the yard and break sprinklers. The horses are not at fault, they are just doing what they are naturally supposed to do, seek out water and food where they can to feed themselves and their babies. there are many many people involved with trying to conserve and protect the horses, they have been working WITH the department of AG for close to 20 years but now because of the new director, those agreements are no longer allowed and the horses are in more danger of being completely wiped out, that’s right the Nevada Ag department, which is charged with "managing" the herds would rather trap and send them all to the meat market. those two (and one was pregnant) that were killed today, the rest of their family watched it all happen, they never left until the dead ones were taken away, and now you can be sure that the brand inspector, and the ag dept will set a trap for them so they can "remove" them as well. Nevada is synonymous with wild horses, our freeways are decorated with them, the new RENO sign on the 1-80 -Virginia street ramp is a wild horse... it is time for ALL Nevadans to demand a real solution to protecting and preserving our world famous Virginia Range Wild

I think that NHP and NDOT could have done a MUCH better job of the clean up there are bus full of kids who had to see this horrific scene this morning. Truly those NHP troopers had something to try to cover those animals up, or even if they moved there cars a little to try to block the view.

Do we know if they were wild or domestic horses?

Too bad. I realize horses are really dark like STUPID PEOPLE WEARING DARK CLOTHING AT NIGHT but there should be a way to put reflective paint stripe or dot on theses animals so they can be seen. Or even warning signs like Equichef says to put reflective signs up. Horse crossing. We have wild and domestic horses in Nevada. Put the signs for crying out loud. Have the counties contract a local sign maker to make the blasted signs. It might be cheaper to go through local companies for them too.

Officials have been quoted saying that the horses have become more comfortable on the road with the great reduction in traffic, especially in the early morning hours. I live south of Pleasant Valley and since the opening of I-580, I have often been the only car traveling north on that strip of Old 395! In addition, the horses that get onto the roadway can't always find a way off the road again because of the fencing around homes and businesses. I think digital signs should be lit at night warning drivers of the possibility of wild horses in the road. The road curves after Andrew Lane, and someone traveling even the speed limit won't be able to see the horses in the road. I'm glad the drivers weren't hurt, but there is nothing worse than seeing the carnage of horses in the road. So, so sad.

They wanted the traffic gone so I would imagine they will want the horses gone next. Damn obstacle's anyhow.
