DAYTON, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com)--Lyon County officials are trying to find the person or persons responsible for trying to set fire to the historic Dayton Justice Court building. Someone threw, what is described by officials, as incendiary devices at two windows of the building breaking the glass. A flammable liquid burned the tinting on the windows.
Dayton resident Kris Anderton lives next door to the building. She said, "This is the historic district of the town. All the long time Nevadans live in this part of Dayton. Normally it is pretty quiet."
Lyon County investigators say a balif noticed the damage this morning. They think the vandal or vandals could have struck anytime over the past couple of days at night.
Lyon County Lieutenant Abel Ortiz said, "There are homes and businesses near that building. We are hoping someone saw or heard something and can come forward and offer information to help solve this crime."
This is the second time since November vandals have targeted a symbol of authority. In November, a series of tire slashings occurred. Some of the victims were members of law enforcement who were targeted at their homes.
