UPDATE: The motorcycle rider is identified as 24-year-old Kyle Banko of Carson City.
RENO, Nev. (Nevada Highway Patrol News Release) - On March 2, 2013 at approximately 1:58pm, NHP troopers responded to an injury crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on SR341, above the lookout (approximately 5 miles south of the junction with US395).
Preliminary investigation revealed a motorcycle (sport bike) traveling northbound on SR341 towards Reno passed a silver Subaru Outback traveling in the same direction. The motorcycle passed the Subaru while in a no passing zone. The motorcycle struck the left side of the Subaru and the rider was ejected.
The 24 year old male from Carson City was transported to RENOWN Medical Center by Care Flight where he died as a result of his injuries. The occupants in the Subaru, a 28 year old female from Gardnerville, Nv and her two young children (4 year old child, and a 3 month old infant) were not injured from the collision.
The highway was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the rider was being treated at the scene, and for Care Flight to land. Traffic was routed around the accident in the southbound travel lane while the accident was investigated. The highway was completely opened at 6:26pm.
