Wildfire burning South of Silver Springs 100 percent contained

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- As of 8:30 tonight, the fire is reported to be 100 percent contained.
UPDATE - 4:11 p.m. 

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Weeks Fire burning just south of Silver Springs has burned 3,871 acres and is now 70 percent contained, according to Sierra Front.

The fire is burning grass and sage in the desert off of Highway 95A near mile marker 31. That's about 10 miles south of Silver Springs.

"Plenty of flame, lots of smoke, I mean it was real lit up," Bill Bashaw said.

His family called the fire into 911. And in a town with one stop light, word spread like the wildfire did.

"A massive fire ball started emerging. It was really exciting and really cool," Forest Puha said. "Two hours later, it covered the whole mountain. I was really worried actually."

Most of the fire burned in ranch land, meaning no homes were ever threatened in the blaze.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Weeks Fire burning just south of Silver Springs has burned 3,000 acres, according to Sierra Front.

The fire is burning grass and sage in the desert off of Highway 95A near mile marker 31.

No homes or structures are threatened, and there is no containment percentage reported at this time.

Fire crews are battling the blaze from the ground and the air and will continue to work through the day.

The Bureau of Land Management, Lyon County, US Forest Service and Nevada Division of Forestry are all assisting in fighting this fire.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A wildfire has burned about 100 acres just south of Silver Springs.

According to Sierra Front officials, the Weeks Fire started just before 7 p.m. about one mile off Highway 95-A near mile marker 31.

As of 10:30 p.m. there is zero percent containment.

Officials say no structures are threatened, but Lyon County has made a full response, and the Bureau of Land Management has several engines, a hot shot crew, and 10 smoke jumpers on scene tonight.

The U.S. Forest Service and Nevada Division of Forestry are also on scene.

You should get a scanner. Then you will know if you gotta grab a hose or a gun to protect your property!
