RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) --- A parent of a Roy Gomm student claims school uniforms violate her child's rights.

Today, her case was heard in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco. After deliberating, the three judge panel will choose one of the judges to write an opinion.

The court says it could be weeks or months before a ruling is handed down.

The case was first filed by Mary Frudden, who sued Roy Gomm over their uniform policy.

For tonysam's edification public school uniforms have been found constitutional in several federal courts. The 9th Circuit ruled them legal in the Clark County SD in 2008. A recording of the hearing yesterday is available at http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/media. It can be found under Frudden.

If you do not like the uniform requirement take your child to another school. This is a school of choice district. Than I guess you would complain about transporting your little angel.

If the case is at the Ninth Circuit, I would assume she lost at a lower court? Nice job of reporting.......NOT!

To all those who think a dress code is a bad thing: your little darlings will be subject to a dress code in the working world for which school is preparing them. Of course you are all so stuck on the idea of freedom, it wouldn't occur to you. There is no such thing as true freedom. We all have to earn a living and live by someone else's rules. Better your darlings get used to that now. And you so-permissive parents need to grow up yourselves.

There is not a SHRED of evidence school uniforms do anything to improve learning. If you want to blame anybody for the waste in taxpayer money, blame your stupid, lawbreaking school district for failing to look at the law regarding dress codes.

UNIFORMS level SOME of the bullying by cutting out some of the comments and peer pressure to dress in various "fashions" that many cannot afford.

She has every right to file a lawsuit. This isn't frivolous, and by the way, there is a TON of case law regarding dress codes.

Lots of idiots who need to take a course in civics. Of course this is against the law. Your idiotic school district and its stupid administrators didn't bother running the whole idea of mandatory uniforms in front of legal experts to see if it would withstand a lawsuit. I just KNEW when Sparks Middle School started this junk, following on the heels of another school, that lawsuits would be filed. Of course this violates freedom of speech, whether or not the specific lawsuit actually addresses this. You people need to understand that the only time school district administrators are allowed to enforce dress codes is for safety and reasons having to do with distractions.

Apparently, Ms. Frudden, a lawyer, is looking for some publicity or notoriety. All she is going to get is a label of "idiot."

I love the thought of uniforms! Maybe then we wouldn't have to see all of the undergarments at schools.
