RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A woman has turned herself in following the hit and run in South Meadows that left 25-year-old Gabriel Kennedy hooked up to machines and unresponsive.

According to Reno Police Department, she has not been booked and an investigation is pending. Her name has not yet been released, check back in with Mynews4.com for more information on this developing story.

RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A young man is still in intensive care after being left for dead in a hit and run incident last Thursday in south Reno. It happened at the intersection of Wilbur May Parkway and Double Diamond Parkway.

25-year-old Gabriel Kennedy has yet to regain consciousness. He also lost a limb, has several broken bones and bleeding in the brain. To his family’s disbelief, the person who hit him remains at-large.

Kennedy’s family can barely recognize him as he recovers at Renown Regional Medical Center. The fun-loving goofball, is now hooked up to machines and unresponsive.

"He loves people. He's fun to interact with. He likes to entertain people," said his brother, Theo Kennedy, and his mother, Solea Kennedy.

"And so seeing him there, lifeless, and on the respirator is unbelievably hard," she said.

Kennedy has been at the hospital since the accident, and every day, Solea has one question on her mind. "I want to know why. Why they would drive off and leave somebody broken like that?"

So broken, in fact, he'll have physical limitations for the rest of his life. Doctors amputated his lower right leg, and that’s not the worst of it.

"They don't know the extent of his brain damage," said Solea.

They fear how Gabe, an active snowboarder and skateboarder, would react to losing a leg. The night his life changed forever, he was enjoying a night out skate boarding with friends. "We just heard the loudest sound and I looked over my shoulder and saw Gabe flying through the air, and a car just taking off," said Ryan Schultz, Gabe’s best friend. "He flew about 180 feet."

Schultz said a silver colored S.U.V. plowed through the crosswalk they were in. It's changed his life, as well. "It’s amazing how fast something like this can really put things in perspective. You know, on what's important. People, family, friends, everything else is just material."

Family and friends say it has been difficult to heal without closure. "That person is still out there. Obviously, we can't undo the damage," said Solea. "But if somebody had the guts to come forward and say, 'I did this and I want to be responsible for it,' That kind of bravery would help us begin to heal."

Until the driver is found, they continue to focus on the positive. "We just tell him that we love him. That we're there," said Solea. "That we know he's going to be okay because he's still here. So that's a miracle in itself."

If anyone has any information to help find the person who hit Gabe, they are urged to call Secret Witness at 322-4900. All tips remain anonymous.

The Kennedy’s have also set up a fund for Gabe’s medical bills and a prosthetic leg. You can donate on GoFundMe at this link.

So what's going on with this--the story seems to have disappeared? (1) How's Gabe doing? (2) Who is this woman? (3) Was she ever charged?

Nice to see all touching comments. Yes Johnny it was Gabe's day off and it wasn't dark!!! I have been urging the public to show there out rage over this hit and run by contacting the DA's office. Let's make sure she is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Gabe will never be the same again!

yo johnny. I am 25. I work a fulltime job doing what I went to school for. I just bought a house as well as other toys. Guess what, I was skateboarding that night as well. Does that mean i deserve to get hit by a car? I don't know what rock you have been hiding under but it is light as day at 7:20PM. It was also the victims day off from his full time job. I can not believe the amount of stupidity in your comment.

I agree, she should be in jail. Atempted, Atempted murder. I work out there in South Reno and people drive like they're the only ones on the road. Self centered and arrogant, like Johnny. We need more police presence and justice for Gabe. What happened to pedestrians having the right away? Day or night, skateboard or not, Johnny.

I guess you can leave comments disrespecting a guy who lost a limb and has brain damage, but if you disrespect the guy who disrespected a helpless victim krnv deletes your comment. Way to go krnv.com, no wonder everyone on here mocks you.

Johnny- I want to first point out how heartless you sound and I hope my children never have a cold heart like yours. Second, EVERYONE deserves time to do the things they love. Some 25 year olds have families to take care of and jobs to tend to. Like renojim said maybe it was his day off? Maybe he was taking a break? I know plenty of 25 year olds who are shooting up drugs and never going to mount to anything... and you want to judge him for skateboarding at night? Please. Tell me how he is wrong. Last, we should be pointing every finger at the woman who drove away after she hit someone! I wasnt there to see the whole accident but even if someone lunges at your moving car you stop and get help. It SHOULD be human nature. She drove away. She left him and caused so much pain and confusion for everyone. Smh.

why is a 25 yr old skateboarding at night? Other 25 yr olds are raising familys, going to war for our country, going to college and working part time or plain busting their asses with crap jobs. he was skateboarding at night? I hope my son is not skateboarding at night when he's 25

Um, JenniCupcake... Did you read that she hasn't been charged yet? When she's charged, they'll release the name. The police can't just arrest someone because they confess to something. They have to corroborate that with some other evidence. That's called habeas corpus, and it's your constitutional right too. There's nothing "special" about the treatment.
