INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - An area domestic violence charity says they just took a big punch when an employee embezzled thousands of dollars. The Tahoe Safe Alliance sent out a letter to donors Friday filling them in with details of how about $15,000 went missing.
In that letter the charity's executive director and its board president wrote:
“We are confident that the theft was committed by this one employee only. The perpetrator had been a long term employee who we respected and trusted. Unfortunately, we were betrayed and became a victim of her greed."
The executive director declined an on-camera interview today but some board members say this unnamed employee suspect was well-trusted before now. Get this - she even had won awards for money management. Those board members add their best guess is that this person fell on hard times. I'm also told she will be paying back every single penny.
That employee could still face criminal charges, the Washoe County Sheriff's office also tells me they've opened up an investigation in the case. The charity also wants the public to know they have not had any interruption in services because of this and they hope to move on from this situation soon.
