RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - An area toy drive is pleading for your help tonight after a donation drop off point allegedly gave all of the gifts away to its own customers instead. The toys were supposed to be given out this weekend at the annual Cops-Robbers basketball game. They hoped to help more than 100 needy kids but the organizer now says they'd be lucky to reach half that amount according to organizer Marcus Woods.
He claims their major Reno drop off point Lili's Restaurant and Cantina just decided to give the toys to their own customers instead. News 4 stopped by the restaurant - where we were told no one was available to speak with us right now and they might call us back Thursday.
This comes just a few days after a jar of cash for the charity was stolen at another restaurant. Now the organizer says he's not sure how they'll recover and he's worried about disappointing the kids who had been looking forward to this event.
As you can imagine, the group is no longer taking donations at that drop off point. But they haven't been able to find another one yet, so if you're interested in helping, please call 775-378-8792.
