RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Gabelli Foundation has announced a $1.5 million gift to help fund a state-of-the-art student fitness center at University of Nevada, Reno.
The Mario J. Gabelli Plaza will become part of the E. L. Wiegand Fitness Center expected to open in late 2016.
Mario Gabelli is chief executive officer of GAMCO Investors, Inc., in Rye, New York. He also is on the board of the Wiegand Foundation, which last September gave the largest donation in its history of $8 million as the lead gift toward the construction of the $46.3 million fitness center.
Another $30 million will be paid in long-term debt service funded by existing student fees. Undergraduates will pay an additional $15 per semester beginning next fall to further fund construction.
