CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Thousands of people watched as politicians joined beauty queens and high school bands Saturday in the annual Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

The parade, which dates back to 1938, celebrated the 149th anniversary of Nevada's statehood in 1864 under President Abraham Lincoln.

Other events Saturday in the capital city included a beard contest, tours of the governor's mansion and a free chili feed hosted by Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.

Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says a black bear nearly "crashed" the parade when the animal reached within about a half-mile of it Saturday morning.

But he says wardens successfully tranquilized the bear and plan to release it back into the wild on Sunday. It was the third bear caught in Carson City since Tuesday.

Nevada's birthday is on Oct. 31, but the day is commemorated over the weekend before the official day.

Many special events will be held leading up to Nevada's 150th birthday next year.

Google is paying 80$ per hour! Just work for few hours & spend more time with friends and family. Yesterday I bought a top of the range Lancia after having made $9458 this month. Its the most-financialy rewarding I've had. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it out Pow6.com
