SPARKS, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) – A 12-year old boy was jumped and robbed while riding his bike near Sparks Middle School around 8 p.m. Thursday.
Sparks Police says the victim told officers that he had been riding his bike behind the school when he was confronted by several subjects. The victim attempted to flee but was punched in the the back of the head by one of the suspects and knocked to the ground. The suspects then took the victims cell phone, necklace, and bike and fled the area.
Witnesses led officers to a 17-year old suspect matching the description given by the victim. The suspect was found with some of the victims property in a nearby apartment complex and was taken into custody. Sparks police then located the second suspect, Julian Padilla, in Sparks and officials say that while arresting Padilla he attempted to pull an officer's handgun out of its holster. Officers were able to secure Padilla and he was taken into custody.
It was determined that both supects in this case were documented gang members and both were charged with Robbery with Gang Enhancement. Padilla was also charged with obstructing and was booked into the Washoe County Jail. The 17 yr old suspect was also charged with a probation violation and was booked into Jan Evans Juvenile Detention Juvenile Detention Center.
