RENO, Nev. ( & KRNV) -- The Nevada Department of Corrections reports that the second of two inmates who walked away from their work detail on January 8 has been apprehended. Inmate Corey Gomez was arrested Saturday morning at an apartment complex on Sunny Slope Drive in Sparks.

According to Sparks Police Patrol Lieutenant John Franz, on Friday, members of the Reno Gang Unit had gathered information that led them to believe that Gomez was inside an apartment complex.

At approximately 10 p.m., members of the regional gang until alongside officers from Sparks Police approached the unit where they believed Gomez to be located. They saw a Hispanic male matching his description through the window. They had reason to believe Gomez may have been armed with a handgun, so they surrounded the apartment complex and communicated through a PA system.

Initial efforts were unsuccessful, so they requested Sparks SWAT team to assist. However, Gomez peacefully surrendered shortly before their arrival, just after midnight.

Inmate Gomez was taken to Washoe County Jail and subsequently to Northern Nevada Correctional Center.

Corey gomez is my brother!!! None of you have a right to judge him. None of you know how it feels to be alone in jail or prison. And he definitely is not dangerous. He gave him self up without a fight cause he knew it was the right thing to do. I love you bro!

Early release? Maybe you could take them in if they get such a release oldguyincc. Just add 10 years to their already light sentences. They are dangerous and lucky the good people of NV didn't get them first.

Does their fairly quick re-capture make them eligible for early release?
