RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say two people drowned in the Truckee River.

According to a release from police, the 18- and 23-year-old victims entered a deep part of the river where witnesses reported that both were unable to swim and disappeared under water.

Police say rescue crews from Sparks and Washoe County responded to the scene and pulled both victims from the water. Their identities have not been released, pending notification of their families.

Authorities urge swimmers at Truckee Meadows to always wear an approved flotation device.
