Reno, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com)-- The Reno City Council is considering adopting new rules requiring minimum licensing and safety requirements for the operation of pedicabs in Downtown Reno.Rex Lee, owner of Pedal Express leases out pedicabs on a nightly basis to individuals who are ready to give locals and tourists a taste of The Biggest Little City from the back of their bikes.
Right now Rex operates under very few guidelines, a new proposal could enforce background checks and licenses on his employees as well as required rates for riders. Rex says ultimately it will be a good thing.
Shara Ford has made this her career, she has regulars and she is always attracting new customers with her costumes, "Sometimes my regular customers don't have money and because I love people I take them where they need to go."
If the new proposal is passed, Shara would be required to charge her customers a minimum rate to ride. Other restrictions would include not riding on streets with a speed limit of more than 35 miles per hourand the amount of people and they way in which they ride the pedicab will be strictly enforced.
Michael Chaump, the Reno Business Relations Manager says the new restrictions will benefit everyone in Reno.
