UPDATE - 2:50PM - According to Fire Information Officer Mike Johnson, the American Fire is said to be human-caused. Johnson says he does not think it's arson.
FORESTVILLE, Calif. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The American Fire which has inundated us with smokey skies for more than a week now is still burning strong, but the smoke has subsided for the time being. The fire that started on Saturday, August 10, is now nearly 15,000 acres and is currently 54 percent contained.
The fire is burning on Tahoe National Forest land about 10 miles northeast of Foresthill. A shift in winds is keeping most of the smoke to the west of us and air quality is still in the moderate range in the Reno-Sparks area.
Fire officials say they will not have full containment of the blaze until Sept. 1.
